Interested In Finding a Winter Lineup For TV Shows?

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

When it comes to the Winter line up TV tends to bring a lot of new shows that really end up being some of our all time favorite shows even though sometimes they are often mixed with some so-called “duds”. Sometimes when it comes to wading through all the “bad” shows to get to the good shows it can become a little difficult but in the end its usually worth it. The thing about TV shows is that not everyone will like the same stuff as you, and you wont like the same stuff as other people. But if your looking for a few TV shows to watch, there is an easier way to go about this to make your life a little bit easier! When it comes to websites, there are a dime a dozen, but sometimes you might just find a little gem that you really will get a lot of use out of.

In order to find these websites your going to have to check out a few sites before you find the right one but once you do your home free! When it comes to the Winter line up there are usually a few different categories your going to be looking at or finding. These include categories such as reality, prime time, new shows, and series shows that either contain new or old shows that we have or haven’t seen. Once you find the website you like you will most likely be able to find some or all of the categories above which then will allow you to view a few shows from each category.

These types of websites are most likely going to be blogs so you can be assured that you will either get a little “sneak peak” of the show or that there will be some sort of a description so you can decide if you will or will not like the show. Plus the videos on these websites are usually from a place that doesn’t have a ton of commercials and ads, or any at all. I hate watching a TV show or a preview online and sites like ABC or CBS tries to fill the video up with a bunch of unneeded ads! I often find these websites quickly help me evaluate if I am going to watch a new show or not.

For instance, a show like How I Met Your Mother just didn’t seem interesting to me at all, but Ghost Whisperer (when it first appeared) sounded like something I would like and I really love Jennifer Love Hewitt over “Doogie Howser” any day of the week. So I gave it a try and voila, I loved it and still watch it even today!

Wish You Could Find TV Show Previews?

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

You can find TV preview videos anywhere, right? Well sure! But the problem with a lot of the websites you go on such as NBC, ABC and CBS is that while you can watch TV previews you also have to watch a ton of commercials and for me and a lot of other people, this can be a major turn off and really… annoying! You need an alternative! One of these alternatives is to visit some of the mixed TV blogs available online. These will not only include some really great videos of your favorite shows, but they will also include a ton of other things. These websites might even include extra special information. One website I was looking at had a “round up” of the Golden Globe Award Winners 2009. Lets take a look at this really quick just so you can get an idea of what I am talking about:

Best Drama - Mad Men. It’s the only award they won tonight, but it’s the important one. And yes, Matthew Weiner was there to accept the award on stage. The show has been off the air and out of our minds for months now so it’s great to see the cast all together again.

Best Actor Drama - Gabriel Byrne (In Treatment). Interesting choice considering the other nominees, including Jon Hamm, Michael C. Hall, Hugh Laurie, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. And of course he was the only nominee not at the show.

Best Presenter - Ricky Gervais. Another win.

Best Acceptance Speech(es): Tina Fey and Tracy Morgan. All the “shout outs” along with NBC’s Jeff Zucker. Oh, don’t forget that since Barack Obama won the election, Tracy said he gets to speak for the show when they win an award instead of Tina!

Most Awkward Moment - Nancy O’Dell on the red carpet, asking Tiki Barber who he’d like to see win. When he said Heath Ledger, she said “that’s a very political answer.”

Best Facial Hair - Tony Shalhoub

I like to consider these the “one stop shop” type of deals. Its a place where you can go for all your needs and never have to leave the website to visit another website for relevant information. So you could really visit these websites for a preview on a TV show find out a little bit about the show plus you can find schedules of when this show will be on and what channel it can be found on. The video previews on some of these websites are really really high quality so its not like your going to be watching some crappy video just because its on an individual website!

When it comes to the Internet you can almost always find exactly what you are looking for - and then some! Recently I was looking online for some websites for the NBC fall lineup and I found quite a few websites that really piqued my interest. These websites contain all the shows you already love plus some of the new ones that are going to air in the fall line up. These websites also include some other really cool options such as TV schedules, biographies of your favorite stars, TV previews, a look behind the scenes and so much more! If you are a TV freak like I am then you will definitely find some good use in websites such as these. Most all of these sites are built in the “blog” type of way so its pretty easy to do a search and find exactly what you are looking for. For example, I was trying to see a few shows coming in 2009 for CBS and found this post:

“With official announcement of 2008-2009 TV schedules, CBS finally revealed its list of new shows combined with some of the most applauded and accepted series on television with a number of new attractions. Here CBS disclosed the featuring of five new series including two comedies and three dramas with eighteen existing series returning to the schedule. The new series includes project Gary [Wednesday 8:30 PM] starring Jay Mohr (Ghost Whisperer) and Paula Marshall (Nip/Tuck) in a comedy about Gary Barnes, a recently single painting contractor, and his dominating ex-wife, Allison, who faces post-divorce chaos after 15 years of marriage; and Worst week [Monday 9:30 PM] about a regular guy (Kyle Bornheimer), can’t help causing fiasco whenever he and his girlfriend (Erinn Hayes) are around her parents.

CBS also returns with CSI: Crime Scene Investigation; CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, all are an American crime drama television series that traces the investigations of a team of Las Vegas forensic scientists as they expose the situation behind puzzling and bizarre deaths and other crimes. Other attractions include a delightful Comic Serial Two and a Half Men [Monday 9:00 PM]; A News Magazine with unique style of reporter-centered investigation called 60 Minutes [Sunday 7:00 PM] with two top notch reality series namely Survivor [Thursday 8:00 PM] and the five-time Emmy Award-winning The Amazing Race [Sunday 8:00 PM]. Courtesy of CBS

The CBS fall lineup 2009 also accommodates a number of Drama series including The Mentalist [Tuesday 9:00 PM], story of Patrick Jane and his detective life at California Bureau of Investigation; Eleventh Hour [Thursday 10:00 PM], the tale about Dr. Jacob Hood, a brilliant biophysicist and his attractive counterpart who try to save people from deadly scientific experiments and The Ex List [Friday 9:00 PM] where a beautiful and seductive lady sets out to find her past love interests and her affections. Beyond other stunning attractions Ghost Whisperer is an exclusive new series to its top-rated Friday, stars Jennifer Love Hewitt, returns at 8:00 PM followed by the night’s utmost rated scripted series NUMB3RS at 10:00 PM.”

So you see these websites are quite effective when it comes to finding out information about your shows you love now and ones you might be interested in “getting into” once they reach the air. A couple of other data points for different shows include that of: 30 Rock, 24, American Idol, How I Met Your Mother, NCIS and The Amazing Race! Check these sites out the next time your looking online and want to see some of the new shows coming up in the fall line up!

Like TV? Wish You Had A Cool Website To Check Out?

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

Its said that about 1 billion people watch TV every single day and with stats like this you know there has to be some really great sites out there. But, how do you find them? Which ones are the good ones? And most importantly what are these websites for? Well its pretty simple to realize exactly why you would use websites such as this - it golds a certain sense of entertainment value. I found a few of these different sites online and they all seem to offer different things. It really depends on you and what you want. One site in particular offered videos, video previews, TV news and even other added things like schedules for certain television shows.

These websites have all the major broadcasting channels as well such as NBC, CBS and ABC so you know they are really up to date when it comes to which shows are available now and which ones were available twenty years ago! There is nothing worse than visiting a website only to see they stopped updating it! These websites, or a lot of them anyway, are set up in blog sequencing posts. So lets take a look at a couple of these posts listed below:

- Scrubs Season 8 Premier: Scrubs Cancelled?

Courtesy of ABC

Courtesy of ABC

- ABC TV: Lost Season 5 Preview

- When are my favorite TV Shows coming? this post was all about the top TV shows and when they are going to be back!

- Fox TV: Prison Break Cancelled

- TV Schedule. An entire schedule for ALL your favorite TV shows on ALL the channels you have for your particular cable company!

There are even a few “biographies” on your favorite celebrities like Wade Williams from Prison Break and Kiefer Sutherland from 24 so you can check these out as well!

As you can see these websites provide not only a ton of information but it really seems that just about anyone can find something on here that they like. Maybe your a spoiler freak and you like watching all the video previews, or maybe you like watching all the famous behind the scenes type videos or who knows maybe what you really enjoy is setting your DVR or TIVO for all the shows your going to watch the whole week (this is totally what I do)! In the end it doesn’t really matter who you are or what your addicting is, as long as you enjoy TV you will definitely enjoy the information and fun these websites can bring to you!

Got DVR? Well NBC Is Top Rated According To Ratings

Friday, February 6th, 2009

NBC’s lineup in prime time is good. Their shows are watchable, enjoyable and have that touch of quirky that audiences are looking for but something keeps the NBC show schedule from dominating the ratings game. Not even Jay Leno and the perennial Tonight Show could dominate after the news spot. NBC hopes moving the extremely quirky Conan O’Brien to the Tonight Show time slot will help the Peacock TV Network beat the once quirky but now cranky David Letterman. They may be right.

The Super Bowl pushed their ratings to the top but this secular holiday only comes, like Christmas, once a year and unfortunately NBC doesn’t get to be Santa Claus every year since the Super Bowl is shared with two other networks. All in all, their lineup for each evening is good but it is “watchable good” or “DVR good”? If there was a network with the most shows on a DVR then NBC might win.

NBC brought back Knight Rider with celebrity stars so hot they melt the pixels on the HDTV. Deanna Russo makes us glad that HD has arrived but her piercing eyes can’t beat the all-time favorite, American Idol. The DVR needs to work overtime to get both shows on it.

NBC’s biggest winner is The Office and rightfully so. It is well-done and a sign that a great sitcom can make it against the toughest of odds. 30 Rock fits into the same mold of an excellent sitcom. Both have critical acclaim and both have and will endure. In order for NBC’s line-up to lead the ratings it needs to see what America wants to watch. Heroes started strong and has influenced movies, books and even comics. Plot twists and the lack of character underpinning makes it difficult to follow. It too is a top DVR choice simply because it goes head to head with the best drama on TV in Fox’s 24 and it takes several viewings to understand the latest twists.

What does NBC need to do to grab the ratings? It certainly isn’t producing better shows (so My Own Worst Enemy could have used some tweaks). It does quirky better than most with My Name Is Earl and Kath and Kim but is quirky enough to win the ratings race? Both shows are like watching Jerry Springer sneaking through a trailer park with his candid camera.

One of the NBC Schedule’s highest rated shows is The Biggest Loser. Why is it so popular? It is simple, we are an obese nation obsessed with food that wants to desperately lose weight while we eat pizza and watch people on TV struggle to lose weight. It is a vicarious weight loss that allows us to be a part of it while feeling none of the pain from it. The Biggest Loser is reality at its secondhand best. And isn’t that way TV is all about?

ABC Scrub’s: Cancelled

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

After Scrubs moved from NBC to ABC this season, a lot of fans assumed that this would be the one last gasp for the show. If you were one of them, then you were right!

The tv show creators said the show was indeed ending at the end of this season. It has nothing to do with the network switch, it’s actually because Zach Braff decided to leave. J.D. is the pivotal character in the show so the show can’t really continue without him (though I’m sure a lot of fans will say that it could).images

This isn’t shocking news, and the way things went (the switch of networks, Braff hinting he might want to leave, the show being in its 8th season) probably means they had time to film a real finale to the show. And we’ll learn the janitor’s name! I had no idea that the janitor only spoke to J.D. the first season because he was originally supposed to be someone only J.D. could see. I’ll have to review those episodes again.

When are my favorite TV Shows coming?

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Entertainment Weekly has answered the question on everybody’s mind (ok - it’s on my mind).  Now that the writer’s strike is over, when will my show come back, and how many new episodes can I expect?

Of note (again, to me, maybe not you)home_alone

  • 24 - Early ‘09 - 22 episodes (just kidding, of course 24)
  • 30 Rock - April 10, 5-6
  • Bones - April 14th, 4+
  • CSI: Miami - March 24, 8
  • Desperate Housewives - Late April, 4-5
  • Heroes - Fall 2008
  • House - TBD, 4-5
  • How I met your mother - March 17, 9
  • Lost - They’ve got 10 episodes done, will take a break in mark and finish up the 16 episode season in 13 episodes
  • The Office - April 10, 5-6

What about Supernatural?  Hoping they don’t cancel it, like Prison Break.

Reaper Television Show

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Popularly marked as a joint venture production of ABC Television Studios and The Mark Gordon Company, Reaper was first premiered on September 25, 2007 in the U.S., with a time slot of Tuesday nights at 8:00/7:00c on The CW. In more candid terms, Reaper was a hilarious Television comedy-drama created by Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas, made for ABC Television Studios.

The story of the ‘Reaper‘ revolves around the main character Sam Oliver [Bret Harrison] who always has wondered that why he is being abandoned by his own parents. On his 21st birthday he got answer which revealed that his own parents sold his soul to the Devil and now the devil asked his parents to take Oliver with them. Reaper is all about the Oliver’s deeds to become the new Reaper, collecting fugitive souls and returning them back to Hell.

If encroaching in the cast detail, Bret Harrison played the character of Sam Oliver, a college dropout and a vagrant boy who becomes the Devil hunter and has a crush on his co-worker Andy. Tyler Labine portrayed the character of Bert Wysocki who sketches his topless home supply store, and won the dog of the month award for nine months in a row.

Most importantly, the character of Devil was played by Ray Wise who claims the rights to Sam’s soul and persistent enough to do as much as he can to come against the God’s will. Last but certainly not least, portrayal of Andy Prendergast, Sam’s co-worker and current girlfriend was taken up by Missy Peregrym.
