Wish You Could Catch An Episode You Missed?

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Well TV always has you covered! While most people enjoy doing things other than watching TV in the summer (think hiking, reading, traveling, sports), a lot of other people just want to sit down and watch repeats or watch the episodes they have missed in the past. Hey I’m not perfect. Ill admit it, on occasion I have “watched for” a repeat episode in the summer time when I know I have missed it when it was originally on! Everyone does it at least once - don’t lie! These newer shows might include American Idol, Mad Men (not repeats but actual new shows), Americas Got Talent, My Boys, The Hills, etc. The old ones include the usual - Buffy, Dawson’s, etc. A lot of these shows are repeats some are new. It really depends on what you want to watch!

Summer 2009 -
“The Listener”: Stolen straight out of “Heroes,” a 24-year-old guy will solve crimes…wait for it…not by talking to ghosts (”Medium” and “Ghost Whisperer”) or being insanely good at spotting clues (”Monk,” “Psych,” and “New Amsterdam”) or through actual investigation (”Law & Order,” “CSI,” “Life,” or “Bones”), but by reading their minds.

Reality shows:
1) “America’s Toughest Jobs,” which I’m assuming is a matter of opinion.
2) “Shark Taggers,” where marine biologists mark underwater beasts with transmitters and probably have a couple hundred close calls. Maybe they should make a guest appearance on “America’s Toughest Jobs.”
3) “Chopping Block,” a couples version of “Hell’s Kitchen,” where they’ll try to successfully open their own restaurant in Manhattan, starring chef Marco Pierre White.

Other things you might be interested in as well:

The lead character is played by Jason O’Mara who had a two-episode stint playing a tumor/bear-attack patient on “Grey’s Anatomy” recently and a few episodes as a potential love interest on “Men in Trees.” Watch trailer.
+ “Scrubs”: Poached from NBC for its final season

FOX
Was in danger of being canceled, but is Returning: Til Death (younger characters have been dropped due to a revamping of the plot), Prison Break, Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles
Canceled: Back to You (got the boot because the two leads were too expensive), New Amsterdam, Canterbury’s Law, K-Ville, Nashville, The Return of Jezebel James, Unhitched.
NEW shows & casting
+ “The Inn”: Jerry O’Connell stars in this series about a New York hotel. The pilot is directed by Jason Bateman.
+ “Class Dismissed” (which was once “Sit Down, Shut Up”): Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Henry Winkler will voice disgruntled, dysfunctional high school faculty members in this animated comedy. Sneak Peak.
+ “Fringe”: J.J. Abrams production. Enough said. lol It’s about a female FBI agent (Australian actress Anna Torv) and an institutionalized scientist (Joshua Jackson) who investigate paranormal activity. So it’s “X-Files” meets “Bones.” Sneak Peak.
+ “Dollhouse”: Joss Whedon, another TV great, brings us a mid-season replacement that will add to the sci fi dramas. Eliza Dushku stars as human among “a group of ‘dolls’ whose personalities are rendered and then wiped clean to accomplish different assignments and tasks.” Sneak Peak.

CBS
Was in danger of being canceled, but is Returning: How I Met Your Mother, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Big Bang Theory, Rules of Engagement
Canceled: Moonlight, Shark, Welcome to the Captain, Cane, Jericho, Viva Laughlin
NEW shows & casting
+ “Worst Week”: In this British comedy remake, newcomer Kyle Bornheimer plays a nervous future son-in-law, who feels the pressure when he has to help his fiancee, played by Erinn Hayes (”Kitchen Confidential”), tell her parents that they’re getting married and she’s pregnant.
+ “Project Gary”: Comedian Jay Mohr plays a pathetic single dad who has an overbearing ex-wife played by Paula Marshall (”Cupid”). Together they attempt to have an amicable divorce as well as restart the dating game, while taking each other’s feelings into consideration. But when his wife gets engaged to their therapist, he decides to go after one of his clients, a single mother played by Jaime King (”The Class” and Sin City).

Where Is My Favorite TV Show At?

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

For a lot of us - TV shows are like important appointments. We usually don’t forget them unless something more important comes along. So in the case of the missing TV show you might be wondering if it got discontinued or if you really forgot all about it! In a lot of cases shows do get canceled. And yes, it does stink. But hey what are going to do? Call the TV channel? Put out a petition? That’s a no go! In a lot of cases your favorite show really may have gotten canceled and there is not a darn thing you can do about it - except latch yourself on to a new show! One thing I would suggest you do is to check out a few blogs for TV schedules. This will allow you to see if your show really did get canceled or if it just switched nights or times. This has happened to me a lot. It happened with CSI and I was dumbfounded as to how a show that awesome could get canceled. Here it just switched its schedule. So searching for your specific schedule would be a really smart thing to do. This one is a little outdated but nonetheless you will get an idea about what these lists look like:

MONDAY
8:00 The Big Bang Theory
8:30 How I Met Your Mother
9:00 Two and a Half Men
9:30 Worst Week
10:00 CSI: Miami

TUESDAY
8:00 NCIS
9:00 The Mentalist
10:00 Without a Trace

WEDNESDAY
8:00 The New Adventures of Old Christine
8:30 Project Gary
9:00 Criminal Minds
10:00 CSI: NY

THURSDAY
8:00 Survivor
9:00 CSI
10:00 The Eleventh Hour

FRIDAY
8:00 Ghost Whisperer
9:00 The Ex List
10:00 Numb3rs

SUNDAY
7:00 60 Minutes
8:00 The Amazing Race
9:00 Cold Case
10:00 The Unit

Another thing I would suggest doing - if you cant find your TV show is to look online and do a search. Chances are if you have a rift over why your show went missing - others will be talking about it as well. In this case you will find a website or wen page that is pretty much guaranteed to have ALL the canceled shows listed on it. So it might look something like this:

Masters Of Illusion (MNT)
Ending after one season, final episode on 5/18/2009

The Middleman (FAM)
Ending after one season, final episode on 9/1/2008

Mind Of Mencia (COM)
Ending after four seasons, final episode on 7/23/2008

Everything should be in alphabetical order, this is the easiest way to find your poor show that did or didn’t get canceled. If after all that you still cant find your show, the very last thing you can do is either visit the network online and look on their speciality TV schedule or just go ahead and email them and ask what happened to your show! They should email you back in a few days, and then you will finally know what happened! Good luck. I hope your show didn’t get canceled because that puts such a damper on things, doesn’t it?!?

Do Criminal Investigative Shows Get You Excited?

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

Ill be the first one to admit it, when it comes to shows like NCIS, Bones and CSI I am a hardcore fan. If I miss an episode the rest of my week just sucks! A few years back when I started really getting into CSI (the one with Grissom) I wanted to try and found out everything I could about this show especially when it was going to be back on air! I made the mistake of “reminding” myself when the Season Opener was going to be on and wouldn’t ya know it, I got the date wrong! I was so bummed! After that, I decided it was probably a good idea if I went online and tried to find some websites where I could actually find out exactly when the show was going to be on as far as the date and the time.

I found some of the nicest websites available out there and they didn’t just include schedules either. They also included some really cool “clips” of the shows along with a few synopsis of what we could expect this season! I really liked these websites because they didn’t just include one type of show or one show for that matter. Instead they included all kinds of different categories such as Drama, Comedy, Action, and mystery plus they had all kinds of shows, some of which I have never even heard of. These shows included ones like; 30 Rock, 24, American Idol, How I Met Your Mother, NCIS and The Amazing Race. These sites are some of the most popular sites simply because of the variety that they carry.

I think by now we know that everyone seems to have their own “tastes” when it comes to TV shows. Some people love Survivor while others anticipate Thursday nights for something like CSI! Either way, no matter what you like watching or what you are interested in, you will definitely find them on these websites. And who knows, maybe you will even find a show that you never thought you knew anything about and absolutely love it! I know this has happened to me quite a few times through out the years. I might hear something about a new show but eh it doesn’t really sound all that interesting. Once I check out a little bit more about the show I start to realize that this is something that I could really like, so I give it a go and as they say - the rest is history!

Are You Interested In Reality TV?

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

It seems that TV watching is like politics, everyone has their own point of view and everyone likes something different. Well if you’re the type of person that likes reality TV then you probably watch shows just like Big Brother and Survivor and if this is the case you are probably a huge addict just like me! As of late, I have been really anxious for Survivor to come back but I really haven’t seen any commercials for when its going to come back or anything about the show so I decided to have a look and see what I could find!

What I came up with were some really interesting websites that gave some really nice information on not only when these shows will be coming back but also some nice previews as well. If you are the type of person that likes to be in the “loop” then these sites are definitely for you. Even if you haven’t ever watched a show like Survivor you could get a pretty good idea of what this show entails just from reading the descriptions on these websites and watching a few videos. Here is a excerpt from one website about Survivor:

“Survivor is a popular reality TV game show format broadcasted in many countries throughout the world. In the show, contestants are isolated in the wilderness and vie for cold hard cash and other prizes such as trips and cars. The show exercises a progressive elimination scheme, allowing the contestants to vote off a tribe member, until only one final contestant remains and wins the title of “Sole Survivor”. The format for Survivor was created in 1992 by Charlie Parsons, and the first production of it was the Swedish show Expedition: Robinson in 1997.”

The videos on these websites are of high quality so its not like your going to be watching some third level hack video. Plus, like on a lot of other unnamed websites (ABC/NBC/CBS) you don’t have to sit through grueling advertisements which can often become quite annoying! Personally, I really like websites like this because as aforementioned it does help keep me in the loop but it also gets me interested in shows I may not have heard of before! I am all about watching my regular shows but if I see something that interests me, I’m willing to give it a whirl! Some other reality TV shows that you should check out are: American Idol, Real World, The Apprentice, and the ever popular Amazing Race!

Looking For A Website For The CBS Fall Lineup?

Sunday, February 8th, 2009
Courtesy of CBS

Courtesy of CBS

When it comes to the Internet you can almost always find exactly what you are looking for - and then some! Recently I was looking online for some websites for the NBC fall lineup and I found quite a few websites that really piqued my interest. These websites contain all the shows you already love plus some of the new ones that are going to air in the fall line up. These websites also include some other really cool options such as TV schedules, biographies of your favorite stars, TV previews, a look behind the scenes and so much more! If you are a TV freak like I am then you will definitely find some good use in websites such as these. Most all of these sites are built in the “blog” type of way so its pretty easy to do a search and find exactly what you are looking for. For example, I was trying to see a few shows coming in 2009 for CBS and found this post:

“With official announcement of 2008-2009 TV schedules, CBS finally revealed its list of new shows combined with some of the most applauded and accepted series on television with a number of new attractions. Here CBS disclosed the featuring of five new series including two comedies and three dramas with eighteen existing series returning to the schedule. The new series includes project Gary [Wednesday 8:30 PM] starring Jay Mohr (Ghost Whisperer) and Paula Marshall (Nip/Tuck) in a comedy about Gary Barnes, a recently single painting contractor, and his dominating ex-wife, Allison, who faces post-divorce chaos after 15 years of marriage; and Worst week [Monday 9:30 PM] about a regular guy (Kyle Bornheimer), can’t help causing fiasco whenever he and his girlfriend (Erinn Hayes) are around her parents.

CBS also returns with CSI: Crime Scene Investigation; CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, all are an American crime drama television series that traces the investigations of a team of Las Vegas forensic scientists as they expose the situation behind puzzling and bizarre deaths and other crimes. Other attractions include a delightful Comic Serial Two and a Half Men [Monday 9:00 PM]; A News Magazine with unique style of reporter-centered investigation called 60 Minutes [Sunday 7:00 PM] with two top notch reality series namely Survivor [Thursday 8:00 PM] and the five-time Emmy Award-winning The Amazing Race [Sunday 8:00 PM]. Courtesy of CBS

The CBS fall lineup 2009 also accommodates a number of Drama series including The Mentalist [Tuesday 9:00 PM], story of Patrick Jane and his detective life at California Bureau of Investigation; Eleventh Hour [Thursday 10:00 PM], the tale about Dr. Jacob Hood, a brilliant biophysicist and his attractive counterpart who try to save people from deadly scientific experiments and The Ex List [Friday 9:00 PM] where a beautiful and seductive lady sets out to find her past love interests and her affections. Beyond other stunning attractions Ghost Whisperer is an exclusive new series to its top-rated Friday, stars Jennifer Love Hewitt, returns at 8:00 PM followed by the night’s utmost rated scripted series NUMB3RS at 10:00 PM.”

So you see these websites are quite effective when it comes to finding out information about your shows you love now and ones you might be interested in “getting into” once they reach the air. A couple of other data points for different shows include that of: 30 Rock, 24, American Idol, How I Met Your Mother, NCIS and The Amazing Race! Check these sites out the next time your looking online and want to see some of the new shows coming up in the fall line up!

Wife Swap ABC

Monday, January 19th, 2009
Courtesy of ABC

Courtesy of ABC

UK-based RDF Media and Stephen Lambert conceived and created the amazing concept of this kind of first ever show in TV history. Wife Swap was first aired in 2003 on the UK’s Channel 4, and since 2004 its American version is breathing the air on the ABC network. Channel 4 had aired two international versions of Wife Swap, one where a British family had altered lifestyles with a German family, and in other, a British family exchanged their lifestyles with an Australian family.

If glancing on the plot, it reveals a reality trail where wives from two entirely different families toggle their lives for two weeks where they exchange their places in respective families. Both the wives take over each other’s family and home duties where they bound to follow the house rules for the first week, but in concluding week they are free to handle the home and home tasks in accordance with her own will.

The producers and creators crafted the series not as a competition but a reality show, where kitchens became the battlefield and living rooms were subjected to forceful and fiery arguments. Interestingly, the outcome was not a cash prize, but a chance for those respective couples to re-discover their love. Different.

This reality drama crawled in controversies when a participant on the show, accused ABC network for trading his wife for a gay man and sued the network for not disclosing her whereabouts. However, the network has discarded the allegations and claimed the argument as sheer homophobia.

Other than that, the show has solid ratings and continues to grow each year.
