At first blush, a lot of people probably stick with the TV guide (paper). But for me? I haven’t read one of those things in forever. The only reason I buy them is for the crossword puzzle in the back. However, I do need my television fix and I do need to find out more about my addictions. For example, Grey’s Anatomy. This has become another one of the biggest prime time “ER” type shows around. In fact, I think they have the show ER to thank for their success! Enter the world of Seattle Grace Hospital, where resident physicians and interns strive to become the best surgeons in the country — but first they must tread the muddy waters of life, love and relationships. The series focuses around Meredith Grey, a surgical resident physician trying to live up to the repute of her famous mother, the brilliant Dr. Ellis Grey. After spending years taking care of her Alzheimer-stricken mother (who has since passed on) and failing to have a healthy relationship with a man, Meredith continues to try to have a committed relationship with Dr. Derek Shepard (a.k.a. McDreamy).

Sound good? It should! It’s only one of my favorites - along with millions of others. This show is awesome because not only does it have a lot of intellect but there is a lot of real feelings behind the show. Its fantasy but its reality. I mean how many of you women out there have the same problems as Meredith?!? I’m guessing a few (a lot) of you! This show truly brings a genuinely good shows to people like you and me. But if you haven’t ever watched this show and you want to know more you might have been wondering how you can find out more. In comes the television websites and blogs. These blogs can help introduce you to McDreamy and the rest of the crew over at Seattle Grace Hospital along with character and show guides, schedules, trivia and much more. I love sites like this. It can really get you in the mood for the show and it can get those of you that have never watched it - interested in watching it. Or trying it out anyway.

You can also watch video previews. These previews are small little “clip its” of the show. This way you can also get an idea about the show and what goes on in the show. These aren’t crappy little videos either. They are really high quality - some of the best I have ever seen. So, if you want to know more about Grey’s Anatomy or you think you might be interested in getting to know the show a little more? These are the best sites for you to check out. Very user-friendly (easy to find what you are looking for), very informative and very fun! I know I could spend hours on sites such as these!

When it comes to TV shows, it’s hard to keep up, let alone pick your favorites. If you want to find new shows, where do you go? If you want to find out when all your favorites are coming back, where do you look? Well, I don’t know about you, but I look online for everything else in life, so why wouldn’t I check the net for my TV show schedules?!? Pretty cool. It’s very easy to navigate, very informative, and you may just find a few new shows you never heard about before, and add them to your “list!” Well one of my favorite places to go are TV blogs, these sites will allow you to become a TV genius.

You can know everything and anything about the new and upcoming shows that are now available in 2009. Maybe some of them are ones you have seen before such as 24, Lost, or Survivor or maybe you can pick out some new shows that you have never seen before. These TV blogs have everything from schedules to previews to synopsis to top ten type lists. You really could just visit one of these sites and go from not knowing anything - to knowing everything. Let’s take a look at a few of the shows and blog posts available:

Do You Like Comedies? Check This Out!

Are You Interested In Reality TV?

Do Criminal Investigative Shows Get You Excited?

Ever Wonder If That 2007 TV Lineup ABC Offered Has Shows You Still Watch?

ABC.com Offers Free Episodes of Desperate Housewives

Television preview videos include the likes of Scrubs, American Idol, ER, Ghost Whisperer and much more! Personally I like the videos because it gives you a sneak peak into what is going on with any particular TV show. I also really like the TV schedules because sometimes (even if I love the show) I might forget when its on or what time it’s on. For example, I love NCIS, but I always get it mixed up with its old night rather than its new night. So I can just take a gander at one of these blogs and it will tell me when it’s on next time! Here is something like what the schedule looks like, just so you can get an idea:

MONDAY
8:00 The Big Bang Theory
8:30 How I Met Your Mother
9:00 Two and a Half Men

Are You A Lost Fan?

digg del.icio.us  TRACK  TOP
By Demetri  | Filed in Drama Shows, Lost  |  No comments yet.

No. I don’t really mean are you a lost fan. Although that would be funny. Instead, I am talking about the show Lost! This show has become one of the most unexpectedly popular shows ever. Seriously. And it’s not another Gilligan’s Island either. This is a good, well thought out show, with amazing character plots, good actors (who doesn’t love Matthew Fox) and a good storyline. Gilligan’s Island could have been over in two episodes. But Lost? This could go on for years to come. They just keep coming up with new things that happen. Alright, here is the back story of the show - after Oceanic Air Flight 815 tears apart in mid-air and crashes on a Pacific island on September 22nd 2004, its survivors are forced to find inner strength they never knew they had in order to survive. But they discover that the island holds many secrets, including a mysterious smoke monster, polar bears, housing with electricity and hot & cold running water, a group of island residents known as “The Others,” and a mysterious man named Jacob.

Okay, so it’s not for everyone. But if you do like these types of shows or you have seen Lost - you know how addicting it can become! Right now, Lost is in its fifth season! It seems like just the other day I started watching this show — oh wait it was! See, I wasn’t originally interested in this show. But I just happen to catch an episode yesterday and I have to say, I actually liked it! So this is going to be another one that I’ll have to get more into and watch a couple more episodes before I make a definitive decision as if I really like it or not. I hope not. I have too many other shows I watch! Anyway, if you like action, adventure, mystery and a tad of romance - Lost is just the show for you! Check it out Wednesday nights at 9pm Eastern/Pacific and 8pm Central!!!

Oh and by the way, if you have never seen this show and if you don’t know if you will like it or not - you could always watch a few videos online. I was on a website the other day a television blog of sorts. They had ALL the newer shows and the older popular shows available and all kinds of information, episode guides, channel guides, video previews, character guides, etc. So this should be something you are checking out if you want to know more about Lost, or any other show out there. They are really helpful!

Life Imitates…Television?

digg del.icio.us  TRACK  TOP
By Demetri  | Filed in Prime Time TV  |  No comments yet.

Maybe Oscar Wilde was wrong, maybe life doesn’t imitate art but television! Most people watch TV for two reasons. One - it’s a reason to relax and be lazy for just a few hours. The second reason is because they lack something in their life and want to have their fantasies. Ever watch Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? You know you haven’t watched it just to answer the question. YOU know you have also watched it, imagining yourself in that chair, winning that money! Heck, I have! Or maybe you watch a show like Grey’s Anatomy and dream of being a doctor involved with Doctor McDreamy! Who knows. The point is, is that most of watch TV for fantasy not reality reasons. But we have fun in doing it. If you are a TV freak and you love either of the shows I have mentioned thus far, then chances are you love others like CSI, Bones, ER, Survivor and the likes. If you like TV that much, then you probably go to TV blogs.

This is one of my favorite things to do when a new show is going to be coming out because they give you an “insiders view” on the show. Maybe they include a synopsis, some preview videos, who is on the show, when it’s going to be featured, etc. Either way, these blog sites are cool because they are everything TV. Whatever you want to know more about, you can find on these sites. They are user-friendly, easy to search on, and very informative and fun to get involved with. Plus, who knows what shows are out there that you never even had an interest in. Maybe now you will! I know for me, I used to see that one show - The Big Bang Theory, looked like something I definitely wouldn’t be interested in. But after reading a little bit about it, I decided to watch it. And it is now one of my all-time favorite comedies. Okay, so sometimes they can be a little too Star Trek-y for me but seriously, what a good show.

And I would have never even thought to watch it unless I went to a TV show blog and read up more about it. Yes. Another show I have an addition for! This one isn’t about could be, would be, should be for me. It’s just a good show I like watching because it makes me laugh. Plus, it’s on Mondays and for me - Monday is always a lonely night because nothing else I like is on! Yea yea. Instead of doing constructive - I found another show to watch. Hey, life is short. Don’t be so serious! A little TV never killed anyone. And besides - laughing is the best medicine. If you like comedies, I suggest checking out Big Bang Theory for sure!

Family Time For TV Time?

digg del.icio.us  TRACK  TOP
By Demetri  | Filed in Prime Time TV  |  No comments yet.

When it comes to our busy lives, sometimes the only way families actually spend time together is during TV time. This is to be expected considering all the different TV shows available out there. Every single night of the week, especially during prime time, there are tons of different shows on. If this is the only way you get to spend time with your spouse or husband - you should probably be aware of all the shows available out there. One of my favorites is all the crime scene TV shows like NCIS, CSI, and Numbers. These three are actually the top three series on TV but there are so many others such as Lost, Survivor, How I Met Your Mother, and so much more. If you allowed yourself, you could actually fill your entire week from TV time from all the major channels on the network like ABC Channel, Fox, NBC, CBS, should I really go on? All of these shows feature your favorite celebrities, which is another reason a lot of these shows have so many viewers! If you want to find out about all the shows you could just as well check out some of the TV guides available online. These TV guides will show you specific channels, times and shows for each spot. For example:

Date Time: March 10th 8pm
Channel: ABC
Show: Homeland Security USA
Episode: They Call Me the Rottweiler

TV Time

TV Time

New or Repeat? New

Date Time: March 10th 8pm
Channel: CBS
Show: NCIS
Episode: Heartland
New or Repeat? Repeat

Date Time: March 10th 8pm
Channel: FNC
Show: The O’Reilly Factor
New or Repeat? New

Its like this with every channel down the line. Some TV guides will even give you a synopsis of the show if you click on it. This way you can see if you have seen it or not (if it’s a repeat). I use the guides a lot because I always forget when NCIS is on even though its one of my favorite shows. I know, I’m bad. But that’s what these guides are for - forgetful people such as myself. Or people like you that are TV addicts and can’t keep up with every single show that they watch. Oh you know who you are, don’t be shy! TV is nothing to be shy about. How could you not like TV? There are all kinds of shows out there you. You can either escape from reality or compare your life, or you can feel like a show is a piece of your life! There is no shame in that. Watch what you want!

And The Oscar Goes Too…

By Demetri  | Filed in Award Shows, Oscars  |  No comments yet.

The producers of the 81st Academy Awards shared with us a different sort of Oscars ceremony this year. The usually prim-and-proper evening was a little “looser” on Sunday night than previous years. It was more fun.

The most exciting part of the evening wasn’t even finding out who won. In all the major acting awards, five previous winners of the award-unannounced to be presenting-welcomed the pledges to their league of extraordinary actors, almost secret society style-all that was missing were ceremonial robes and chanting.

Slumdog Millionaire was, to be expected, the big winner of the night. It won best picture, best director (Danny Boyle), and a many, many other prizes. Some other winners included Sean Penn for best actor, Kate Winslet for best actress, Heath Ledger for best supporting actor.

In summary, the evening was truly a success because of several brilliant decisions from the producers. Hugh Jackman was wonderfully tolerable as the hosting the event, while bouncing back and forth between Broadway-style numbers and his fantastic command of the stage. The venue was intimate as well. The best picture nominees were all shown alongside past winners with a common theme. But most of all, it was great that no one got their speech cut off by that buzzkill orchestra.

I have been spoiled the last few weeks. Since I opened Media Metropolis in December of 2008, my interest in TV Shows has increased. Even with the shows that I wouldn’t normally watch. The real question I asked myself was how could I watch abc tv episodes and review them properly.

Then I visited the abc.com web site. To my surprise, they offered “free episodes” of all of their aired tv shows. To my surprise, there was limited commercial interruption. Although this is not as good as DVR or TiVo, in my humble opinion, it is the next best thing.

First, I went to the abc.com homepage. Second, I selected the “free episode” tab, which provided me with an exclusive abc tv show list. Third, once I reviewed which tv show I wanted to watch, I clicked on the title. In this case, ABC.com Desperate Housewives. Next, I had the option to select which season and then particular episode. Of course, I selected Season 1, Episode 1 to begin my journey. Finally, I had the excellent option to choose “standard” or “HD” streaming. Since I have higher grade equipment, I chose HD.

It was a simple as that. My very own ABC.com Desperate Housewives episode playing in my bedroom on my computer screen without any technical difficulties. This saved me time and provided flexibility for my tv schedule. Thank you ABC! Goodbye VCR…wait, I got rid of that last year!

The CBS TV hits continue in 2008. Ah, as I review the past few years of tv show lineups, we turn to the 2008 CBS fall line up! I am excited as usual, because in my opinion, they have taken over as the #2 television network. This tv lineup was appears to be designed to attract more female viewers. There were some favorite tv shows that you won’t see anymore. First, Moonlight, made room for the tv series The Ex-List…if you like tarot card reading, then this one is for you. As we have noted in the 2009 CBS fall lineup, The Mentalist, has made its mark.

Jerry Bruckheimer’s Eleventh Hour, and comedy sitcoms like Worst Week and Project Gary are introduced. CBS did make one shocker by shifting New Adventures of Old Christine to a new day and time, from Monday to Wednesday.

Another strong couple of tv series, Criminal Minds and CSI: NY have made the cut again. The hit franchise, CSI continues to draw more and more viewers as time goes on. I am a personal fan of the show due to its creativity and strong writers.

Moving into a comedy phase were Rules of Engagement as a mid-season replacement show, should any of the previous shows not make ratings as expected.

When you have an opportunity, please review the 2008 CBS fall lineup below for more information and schedule it in your DVR or TiVo.
