TV Commercials: How many per Episode?
As I watch several different episodes from multiple channels, trying to provide fun information, I can’t seem to get over the amount of commercials. Obviously, the time of day brings larger and smaller audiences, respectively. From a marketing perspective, I think of the people watching each show - or the demographic. As an example, NBC’s “30 Rock“, targets the 18-49 year old group as does “The Office“, “CSI”, etc.Â
Knowing each demographic and when they are watching is important to advertisers. It is also very expensive. A specific ad placed randomly throughout the day will be less expensive than primetime tv at a specific time, such as 7:00pm for CBS’s, “60 Minutes”. According to Wikipedia, there can be as much as 15 minutes per one-hour episode of commercials. If each commercial is 30-seconds to 1-minute, then we are witnessing 15-30 commercials an hour! When the SuperBowl comes around, and we hear those amazing statistics about cost per ad, such as $2 Million for each commercial in the 1st quarter, I will let you know how many are for the sporting event.Â
What is your opinion of having so many ads per episode? Do you find most of them useful? How do you view the new interactive ads asking viewers to watch an episode, find a clue, then go to their Web site and enter the answer resulting in a reward?Â
In my opinion, I think that is good marketing. Reward the viewer for enjoying not only the tv show and episode, but sitting around for the ads as well. Everyone wins in that picture!
Lost: My Overview
Lost, without any second thought, was considered as one of the biggest hit drama series aired on ABC. Conceived to offer a high quality entertainment throughput by JJ Abrams and Damon Linderof, Lost is again going to punch the TV screens on every Wednesday night at 9:00 PM Eastern/Pacific and 8:00 PM Central, beginning January 21, 2009. Of course, now the audience will witness a sensational hour that offers in bulk, the show’s awesome and puzzling mysteries and their answers. It was supposed to be the most promising series for the season and a must-see TV show on ABC. With a thrilling background and filmed in Hawaii, it stored a snooping depiction about a group of lively airplane passengers who met with a plane crash. Lost became the amazing trail about those feeble commuters on a tropical island and their survival journey among the intense shriek of the baffling creatures stalking the island.

Lost portrayed a number of vibrant characters with vivid mindsets that made the story revolve around. Those stunning characters include an ethereal-looking female bank robber; a former Iraqi soldier; a resentful African-American child with telekinetic abilities and a paraplegic who stuck in a time warp of destiny. Numerous tremendous situations had given a chance to explore the characters where everyone concealing some hush-hush or ordeal, drug addiction, armed robbery and assassin motives.
In its every season, Lost has accumulated the crushing audience retort with its tense emotional wandering in which secrets were revealed, questions were answered and new mysteries were knocked for more puzzles.
So it’s a worthy watch to keep eye on a group of 48 survivors, marooned on an island after a disastrous plane hurtle.
